Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • You have an application or driver that issues read operations to the Usbser.sys driver and that specifies read time-outs.

In this scenario, you may experience a Stop error 7E or a Stop error D1.

Cause

This problem occurs because of a race condition in the Usbser.sys driver.

Resolution

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
