Symptoms

Assume that you export a mailbox into a personal folder (.pst) file by using the new-mailboxexportrequestcmdlet in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 environment. There are subfolders in the “Deleted Items” folder of that mailbox. In this situation, the subfolders are not visible in the .pst file in Microsoft Outlook. You can verify this issue by creating a new subfolder that has the same name as the invisible folder. However, this operation cannot be completed.

Cause

This issue occurs because the PR_SUBFOLDERS property is set to false for the "Deleted Items" folder in the Hierarchy Table.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install Cumulative Update 7 for Exchange Server 2013.

Workaround

To work around this issue, run the export command explicitly for the "Deleted Items" folder by specifying a new target folder on PST other than the default Deleted Items folder. For example:

New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox testmov -SourceRootFolder "Deleted items" -TargetRootFolder "1" - filepath \\e2k10\forpst\testmov.pst

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
