In Windows, you can configure Copilot launch preferences through Taskbar settings and adjust the functionality of the Copilot key on their keyboard. Keyboard shortcuts and screen readers may be utilized to activate Copilot and tailor its operation to individual requirements.

Note: Some options might not be available depending on your Microsoft 365 account type or organization settings. For more information, go to Welcome to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app.

Turn on Copilot in Taskbar settings

  1. Press Windows logo key +I to open Settings window.

  2. Press Tab until you hear "System," then press the Down arrowkey until you hear "Personalization," and press Enter.

  3. Press Tab to move to the options, then use the Down arrow key until you hear "Taskbar," and press Enter.

  4. Press Tab until you hear “Ask Copilot toggle button,” and then press Spacebar to turn it on.

  5. Once it’s turned on, press Windows logo key+C to open Copilot, or access Copilot from the taskbar.

Customize the Copilot key on your keyboard

  1. Press Windows logo key+I to open Settings.

  2. Press Tab until you hear "Bluetooth & devices," and press Enter.

  3. Press Tab to move to the options, then use the Down arrow key until you hear "Keyboard," and press Enter.

  4. Press Tab until you hear "Customise Copilot key on keyboard,” and then press Enter to open the list.

  5. Use the UporDown arrow key to move through the options like Search, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Custom, and Copilot.

    Note: The available options and default selection may differ based on your account settings and installed applications. If no option is selected, pressing, Windows logo key+C may not perform any action and could prompt you to configure the shortcut.

  6. Select the desired option, and then press Enter.

    Notes: 

    • If Copilot is turned on in Taskbar settings, it overrides the option selected in Customise Copilot keyon keyboard.

    • Available options may vary depending on your account type and installed apps.
