Symptoms

Assume that you install an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 1394 isochronous streaming device on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. For example, you connect an IEEE 1394 digital video camera to a computer. In this scenario, the IEEE 1394 isochronous streaming fails. This behavior causes the video capture and playback to stop or to drop most video frames.

Cause

This issue occurs because of an error in Microsoft IEEE 1394 bus driver. When an IEEE 1394 client driver send an I/O request block (IRB) with a control code of REQUEST_ISOCH_FREE_BANDWIDTH to the IEEE 1394 stack, the I/O request packet (IRP) may return an undocumented Irp->IoStatus.Status of STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED.
