Revert to a previous version of an Input Method Editor (IME)

If any issues are encountered when using the current version of the Input Method Editor (IME), IME supports a compatibility setting that allows reverting to the previous version of IME. To enable the previous version of IME, choose one of the following methods:


Taskbar icon

  1. Right-click on the IME options Characters icon in the system tray area of the taskbar and then select Settings Settings.
  2. In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME window, select Characters General.
  3. In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME > General window, under Compatibility, make sure Use previous version of Microsoft IME is switched On.

Microsoft IME shortcut

  1. Use one of the following Microsoft IME shortcuts to directly open the Microsoft IME settings in the Settings app:

  2. In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME window, select Characters General.

  3. In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME > General window, under Compatibility, make sure Use previous version of Microsoft IME is switched On.

  1. Select Start WindowsLogo and then select Settings Settings > Time & language TimeLocale > Language & region TimeLanguage .

  2. In the Time & language > Language & region window, under the Language section, select the ellipses More next to the desired language and then select More Language options.

  3. In the Time & language > Language & region > Options window, under the Keyboards section, select the ellipses More next to Microsoft IME and then select More Keyboard options.

  4. In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME window, select Characters General.

  5. In the Time & language > Language & region > Options > Microsoft IME > General window, under Compatibility, make sure Use previous version of Microsoft IME is switched On.

Important

Microsoft doesn't recommend using the compatibility setting for the long term. The compatibility setting is meant as a temporary workaround for an issue.
