Summary

This article describes the Microsoft Outlook 2010 issues that are fixed in the hotfix package that is dated August 30, 2011.

INTRODUCTION

Issues that this hotfix package fix

  • Assume that you use Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 and Outlook 2010. When you try to open another user’s shared folder in Outlook 2010, the contents of Outlook Today are displayed instead of the contents of the shared folder.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • There is an .eml file that contains a delivery report.

    • You use an application to covert the .eml file to an .msg file.

    • You try to open the .msg file in Outlook 2010.

In this scenario, Outlook 2010 crashes.

  • Assume that you send a meeting request to a Microsoft Exchange 2003 account by using a POP3 account or an IMAP account. When the Exchange 2003 account opens the received meeting request, the meeting request is displayed as a blank email message.

  • You use a policy to set a path that contains an environment variable for Offline Address Book (OAB) files in Outlook 2010. Alternatively, you set the REG_EXPAND_SZ value of the following registry entry to include an environment variable:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Cached Mode
    Value Name: SpecifyOfflineAddressBookPath

In this situation, Outlook 2010 cannot download the OAB files.

  • Assume that the cached Exchange mode for your email account is disabled in Outlook 2010. When you use the AutoArchive feature to archive a flagged item in Outlook 2010, the flagged item is archived unexpectedly.
Note The AutoArchive should not archive a flagged item.

  • Assume that you enable the cached Exchange mode for your email account by setting the DWORD value of the following registry entry to 1:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Cached Mode
    Value Name: Enable

When you try to add another email account in Outlook 2010, the Download shared folders check box is not selected by default as expected.

  • You have a primary mailbox and an alternate mailbox in Outlook 2010. The Inboxes in both mailboxes contain some of the same strings. When you try to search for the strings from all mail items in these two mailboxes, no search results are returned for one of the mailboxes. Additionally, the search operation never stops.

  • You open the mailbox of an Exchange email account in Outlook 2010. The mailbox contains a root folder which has 500 or more sub-folders. Each sub-folder has at least one folder. When you try to expand the root folder, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Cannot display the folder. Your server administrator has limited the number of items you can open simultaneously. Try closing message you have opened or removing attachments and images from unsent messages you are composing.

The event 9646 is logged on the server.
Note This issue occurs when you run Outlook 2010 in online mode.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You have a primary Exchange email account and a secondary Exchange email account.

    • You create a new email message that has a title and text in the message body. Then, you save the email message as an Outlook Template (.oft) file.

    • You create a new email message from the .oft file that you just created. You add some text into the message body.

    • You use the secondary account to send the email message.

In this scenario, the received email message does not contain the text that you added.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You have a contact who has a Korean full name. For example, the full name of the contact is "홍길동".

    • You start to type the first character of the contact’s name in composition mode in the To line of an email message. For example, you start to type “홍.”

Note You do not type the full first character. When you type in composition mode, the character that is being composed is displayed in a black background.

    • You click the full name of one of the suggested contacts. For example, you click to select 홍길동.

In this scenario, the text of the full name is displayed as the first character of the name, a semicolon, and then the full name. For example, the text of the full name is displayed as "홍; 홍길동".

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You open the mailbox of an Exchange email account in Outlook 2010.

    • You grant Calendar permissions to another user. The permission level is set to Free/Busy time, subject, location.

    • Afterward, you give a separate user delegate access to your exchange account.

In this scenario, the permission level of the delegate user is reset to Free/Busy time.

  • You open Outlook 2010 in a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008. When you try to search a string that is included in some email messages in Outlook 2010, no search results are returned.

  • When you start Outlook 2010 with the /importprf switch, you are prompted unexpectedly to configure your profile.
This issue occurs when the Outlook profile file (.prf) contains the following settings:

    OverwriteExistingService=No
    UniqueService=Yes

Note To start Outlook 2010 with the /importprf switch, run the following command:

    outlook.exe /importprf <path>\<file name>.prf

  • You save an email message to a network share in Outlook 2010. When you try to save another email message, the network share is not opened in the Save As dialog box.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You configure Cached Exchange Mode Settings to enable the Download Public Folder Favorites option in Outlook.

    • You create a synchronization filter for one of the public folder favorites.

    • You try to apply the synchronization filter.

In this scenario, the synchronization filter is not applied. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

Cannot apply changes for offline replication.

  • When you click Map It in the Contact dialog box for a contact, the provided location in the Bing map is incorrect.
This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:

    • The location of your Windows account is set to India or mainland China.

    • You are running an English version or a global version of Outlook 2010.

    • No Multilingual User Interface (MUI) package is installed for Outlook 2010.

  • You cannot open a hyperlink that contains "file://" and a folder name that begins with a number sign (#) in an email message in Outlook 2010. The following is an example of a URL format that fails to open:
    file://servername\#testfolder

  • You open an email message which contains an invalid URL. When you run an add-in which uses Forward and Display methods to forward the email message, Outlook 2010 stops responding.

  • You configure an additional mailbox or a public folder in an Outlook 2010 profile. When you try to open the additional mailbox or public folder, Outlook 2010 may stop responding.

  • You send an email message in Outlook Web Access (OWA). When you try to recall the email message in Outlook 2010, the recall operation fails.

  • After you install Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1), reminders are not displayed in Outlook 2010.

Note This issue occurs when you run Outlook 2010 in online mode.

  • Assume that a roaming user saves a password for an additional mailbox on a client computer. When the roaming user logs on to another client computer and tries to start Outlook 2010, he or she is prompted unexpectedly to re-enter the password.
