Symptoms

When you connect a USB personal healthcare device (such as a glucose meter) to a USB 3.0 port on a computer that is running Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2, the Personal Healthcare Device Class (PHDC) descriptor validation for the USB device fails. In this situation, the USB device cannot be recognized.

Cause

This occurs because of a specification conflict between the PHDC and the USB-defined SuperSpeed Endpoint Companion descriptor.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the November 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
