Symptoms
Assume that you have a server that's running Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or 2014, and the server has a large volume of memory installed, such as 2–4 terabytes (TB). When you create a new database, it may take longer than expected to create the database. For example, it may take 10 minutes to finish the process.

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:
Cumulative Update 7 for SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 1
Cumulative Update 14 for SQL Server 2014 RTM
Cumulative Update 3 for SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 3
Note To enable this feature improvement after you install this update, enable SQL Server trace flag 3449, and then enable an indirect checkpoint on the model database.
To enable trace flag 3449, add the -T3449 startup parameter. Or, you can use the dbcc traceon(3449) statement for a specific session.
