Symptoms
In SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 2 and SQL Server 2016, soft-NUMA is configured automatically at the database-instance level when the SQL Server service starts. Soft-NUMA is enabled or disabled based on the number of physical cores. However, the SQL Server error log mentions logical processors instead of physical cores.
Resolution
This update is included in Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2016. Note After you apply this update, the SQL Server error log now contains the following message:
Automatic soft-NUMA was enabled because SQL Server has detected hardware NUMA nodes with greater than 8 physical cores.
Each new build for SQL Server 2016 contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous build. We recommend that you install the latest build for SQL Server 2016.
Status
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
