Symptoms
Assume that you create a query that references to the Extended Markup Language (XML) data type in Microsoft SQL Server 2014, 2016 and 2017. When you run the query across multiple threads, the query may fail. Additionally, an access violation error occurs in the SQL Server error log.
Resolution
This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:
Cumulative Update 13 for SQL Server 2017
Cumulative Update 5 for SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 2
Cumulative Update 13 for SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1
