Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You run an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Analysis Services (SSAS 2017).

  • You enable translations for your parent-child (PC) dimensions attributes.

  • You run a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query that references translated dimension attribute names.

In this scenario, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Internal error: An unexpected exception occurred.


Note
This issue also occurs in client queries such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), and so on.

Resolution

This problem is fixed in the following update for SQL Server:

Cumulative Update 12 for SQL Server 2017

Each new build for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and security fixes that were in the previous build. We recommend that you install the latest build for your version of SQL Server:
