Applies ToSQL Server 2016 SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 3 - duplicate (do not use)

Symptoms

Assume that you install SQL LocalDB 2016 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Service Pack 2 (SP2). The enumeration of the LocalDB versions that are installed on the computer stops, and an error occurs.

You receive the following error message if this fix is not applied:

  • After you install SQL LocalDB 2016 SP1:

          Filepath\SqlLocalDB.exe versions

          Windows API call "RegGetValueW" returned error code: 0.

  • After you install SQL LocalDB 2016 SP2 (slightly different from the SP1 message):

          Filepath\SqlLocalDB.exe versions

          FormatMessageW failed. Error code returned: 15100

This update is included in the following service pack for SQL Server:

Service packs are cumulative. Each new service pack contains all the fixes that are in previous service packs, together with any new fixes. We recommend that you apply the latest service pack and the latest cumulative update for that service pack. You do not have to install a previous service pack before you install the latest service pack. Use Table 1 in the following article to find more information about the latest service pack and latest cumulative update.
