This article describes an update that fixes an issue in Windows Server 2008 R2 and improves the copy of the Cmitrust.dll file in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows 7. Before you install this update, notice that the update has prerequisites. If you want to know more information about the Cmitrust.dll file, see the More information section.
Note This is an Optional update. If you have a Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer, you should install this update.
Issue that is fixed in this update
If the Protect object from accidental deletion option is enabled in the domain root object, some component updates cannot be installed on a read-only domain controller (RODC) in Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
How to obtain this update
To resolve this issue,we have released an update through Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center. Even though this issue has only been observed in Windows Server 2008 R2, the update also applies to Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows 7.
Important Do not install a language pack after you install this update. If you do, the language-specific changes in the update will not be applied, and you will have to reinstall the update. For more information, see Add language packs to Windows.

To install this update, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1. Or, install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Status
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
More Information
This update releases a new version of the cmitrust.dll file that is stored in the %windir%\system32\AdvancedInstallers directory. For Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 client operating systems, this file is present to keep versioning consistent between the version in the \AdvancedInstallers directory and the version that is held in the component store %windir%\winsxs. In Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 2008 R2 SP1, in addition to keeping versioning consistent, this version of the binary also contains a fix to update installation failure on RODCs.
This issue also occurs in Windows 8.1 and Windows 8-based operating systems. You can install the following servicing stack updates to resolve the issue:
