Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a stored procedure in Microsoft SQL Server 2008. This stored procedure runs a dynamic SELECT statement in an EXECUTE statement or in a sp_executesql stored procedure. In the list of the SELECT statement, a column has a value that is many characters long.

  • You add a TSQL subsystem step that runs this stored procedure to a SQL Server Agent job.

  • You select a folder for the output file of the TSQL subsystem step.

  • You run the SQL Server Agent job.

In this scenario, SQL Server increases CPU usage to a high value. Additionally, the SQL Server Agent job requires a long time to run.
