Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

  • The computer has a motherboard that supports the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) 3 feature.

  • The computer tries to enter Hibernation.

In this scenario, a black screen is displayed and the computer restarts automatically.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a change that was made to the Errata.inf file in Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2. This change does not work well with legacy USB ports on motherboards that support the iLO 3 feature.
