Symptoms
Assume that you move files from one folder to another folder by using Windows Explorer on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. In this situation, the file permissions from the original folder may persist on the moved files.This issue occurs when you define access control entries (ACEs) by using the same level of file permissions on the original folder and on the destination folder, but have group accounts that have different relative IDs (RIDs).For example, you configure the following file permissions on two folders:

Folder1GroupA: Full ControlGroupB: ReadAdministrators: Full Control
-
Folder2GroupC: Full ControlGroupD: ReadAdministrators: Full Control
In this example, when you move files from Folder1 to Folder2, the files are supposed to inherit file permissions from Folder2. However, the file permissions from Folder1 incorrectly persist on the files.Note If you change the file permissions for any of the ACEs on Folder2 (for example, you change the file permission for GroupD from Read to Write), the files correctly inherit file permissions from Folder2.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
