Applies ToWindows 7 Professional Windows 7 Enterprise Windows 7 Ultimate Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • You use the Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in to connect to a domain controller.

  • You try to delete a read-only domain controller (RODC) in the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in.

  • There are many cached passwords on the RODC.

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

The password does not meet the password policy requirements. Check the minimum password length, password complexity and password history requirements.

Additionally, the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in crashes. Therefore, you cannot delete the RODC in the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in does not correctly handle situations that require it to delete an RODC that has many cached passwords.
