Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You use the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 software development kit (SDK) to develop an application.

The contact information of a Lync client user does not include a custom location.

The user tries to add a custom location by using the application.
In this scenario, the custom location is not added. Additionally, the user receives a COM exception message together with the following error code:
0x8000ffff

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:
