Description of the Outlook 2010 hotfix package (Outlook-x-none.msp): August 28, 2012

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

• When you connect to the Microsoft Office 365 Exchange Online service, Outlook 2010 enters a disconnected state because the password is expired. However, you do not receive a notification that the password is expired.
  
  After you install this hotfix, a dialog box appears if the password is going to expire. The dialog box enables you to open a URL to change your password.

• When you start Outlook 2010 without an enabled network connection, the PR_EMSMDB_USERNAME profile parameter is overwritten. Therefore, you are prompted for credentials the next time that you start Outlook 2010 after you enable the network connection.
  

• When the meeting organizer removes one or more attendees from the whole series of a recurring meeting, attendees that the organizer adds to meeting exceptions are lost from the meeting workspace.
  

• When you send a read-only email message that has an email attachment, the message is sent successfully. However, the email attachment is missing from both the Sent folder and the recipient's Inbox.
  

• When a delegate shared folder is aged out, a Replication ID is created unexpectedly on the Microsoft Exchange server.
  

• Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a registry entry that is named "DisableTNEF,"and you set its value to 1 in the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\outlook\Preferences

  • You open an email message that requests a read receipt, and you try to respond to the read receipt request.

  • The read receipt is corrupted for some reason.

  In this scenario, you cannot send the read receipt. Additionally, you cannot send email messages. Also, you receive the following error message:

  Task '<account name> - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC13): 'Cannot connect to the network. Verify your network connection or modem.'

• Assume that you enable the Desktop Alerts feature in online mode in Outlook 2010. When you run Outlook 2010 against a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 server, Outlook 2010 randomly stops receiving new email notifications.
  

• When you try to rename a subfolder in a shared mailbox, the folder name reverts to its original name when you restart Outlook 2010.
  

• After you cancel the Exchange Online Archiving (EOA) authentication dialog box, Outlook endlessly connects to the Client Access Server (CAS) server and the Public Folder (PF) server.
  

• When you search email items in All Mail Items when Outlook 2010 is in online mode, you receive a "Your search returned a large number of results. Narrow your search, or click here to view all results" message. When you click the message, no search results are returned.
  

• After you apply the hotfix package that is described in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 2598318, you cannot use the Save As function to save an item to a network location by using the Outlook object model in Outlook 2010.
  

• Consider the following scenario:

  • User A selects the Download shared folders option in his profile and then caches some folders from User C.

  • User C receives many unread mail items from User B that request read receipts.

  • User A clears the Download shared folders option and then restarts Outlook 2010.

  In this scenario, User B receives non-read notifications that tell him that his unread email messages have been removed, even though the unread email messages were not deleted.
  

• Consider the following scenario:

• • User A selects Japanese (EUC) in the Preferred encoding for outgoing messages option in Outlook 2010.

  • User A sends an email message together with a read receipt request to User B.

  • User B tries to respond to the read receipt request for the email message.

  In this scenario, User B cannot send the response and also cannot send email messages. Additionally, User B receives the following error message:

  Task '<account name> - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC13): 'Cannot connect to the network. Verify your network connection or modem.'

• Assume that Global Address List is not the default address list in the Outlook Address Book. You switch Outlook from online mode to offline mode, and then back to online mode. In this situation, you receive the following error message when you try to open the Address Book:

  The bookmark is not valid

• Assume that you create a registry entry that is named "PstDisableGrow," and you set its value to 1 in the following registry subkey:

  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\outlook\pst
  When you copy a meeting item from the Outlook calendar to a Microsoft SharePoint calendar, the meeting item does not sync to the SharePoint calendar.
  
  Note This issue occurs only for meetings. It does not occur for appointments, tasks, or other SharePoint items.
  

• Assume that you run Outlook 2010 on a computer that is connected to an on-premises mailbox on an Exchange server. You save your password by selecting the Remember password setting. When you migrate the on-premises mailbox to Microsoft Office 365, you cannot start Outlook 2010. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

  Cannot open your default e-mail folders. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance.

• Outlook crashes when you edit and then try to save a read-only mail item.
  

• Assume that you move some folders from a .pst file to an Exchange mailbox that has a mailbox quota. During the move, the mailbox quota is exceeded. In this situation, the unmoved items that should remain in the folder are deleted unexpectedly from the .pst file. Additionally, you may receive an error message that states that the quota was exceeded.
  

• Assume that you select a shared calendar in the Calendar view in Outlook 2010, and then clear your own calendar. In this situation, Outlook 2010 crashes when you switch back to the Calendar view from any other view.
  

• Assume that you create a registry entry that is named "DisableCrossAccountCopy," and you set its multi-string value to Reg_MULTI_SZ * under the following registry subkey:

  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook
  Then, you try to copy an .msg file to a mailbox folder. After you click OK during this attempt, Outlook crashes.
  

• Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a meeting request, and you include some meeting attendees.

  • You add other recipients in the Have replies sent to field.

  • You send the meeting request.

  • You make an update to the meeting, and then you send the update.

  In this scenario, the meeting update is sent only to the recipients that are in the Have replies sent to field instead of to all the meeting attendees.
  

• Assume that you have a delegate, and that your mailbox address is hidden from the global address list (GAL). When the delegate tries to access your shared folders in Cached Exchange Mode, the delegate cannot open them.
  

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
