Introduction

This article introduces a cumulative update that can improve the performance of the Metadata Discovery process in Microsoft SQL Server Native Client for Microsoft SQL Server 2012.

Notes:

  • The data access client uses the system stored procedure Sp_describe_first_result_set to retrieve the metadata for the client application. This stored procedure may cause small performance issues in SQL Server 2012. This cumulative update can resolve this issue.

  • The performance improvement is more significant in small Transact-SQL batches that can complete execution in a few seconds.
