Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device.

  • You configure the device so that Exfat.dll is the default file system driver in the following registry subkey:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]

  • You configure the device to disable support for a certain file system. For example, you disable support for the NTFS file system.

  • You set the DWORD value of the DisableAutoFormat registry entry to 1.

  • You connect a USB storage device that includes an NTFS partition to the device.

In this scenario, the NTFS partition on the USB storage device may be formatted to the Extended File Allocation Table (exFAT) file system format.
