When a System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection administrator attempts to export an Antimalware policy it fails with the following error:

The specified settings failed to be exported!

Symptoms

This can occur if the Antimalware policy has one or more of the following five characters within the Name or Description field:

'

<

>

Resolution

To resolve this issue, rename or remove the symbols from within the properties of the antimalware policies Name or Description field.

If there is a special need to have the symbols with the XML file, it may be possible to replace them using the information in the following Knowledge Base article:

308060 HOW TO: Locate and Replace Special Characters in an XML File with Visual Basic .NET (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308060).

This issue is scheduled to be addressed in Service Pack 1 for System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection.
