Symptoms
Assume that you run the cursor stored procedure sp_cursoropen together with the scrollopt argument in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 or Microsoft SQL Server 2012. Additionally, assume that the following conditions are true:

The scrollopt argument is not set as STATIC or FAST_FORWARD.

The argument stmt contains a query that runs against a view.

The view retrieves data from a table by using a linked server.

The table has a composite index that contains 16 key columns.
In this situation, you receive the following error message:
A severe error occurred on the current command.
