Symptoms

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 may experience out-of-memory errors because of an internal memory leak. In this situation, the leaked memory is consumed by the MEMORYCLERK_SQLLOGPOOL memory clerk that is used internally for transaction log activities such as the following:

  • AlwaysOn change-capturing activities on the primary replicas

  • AlwaysOn redo manager activities on the secondary availability replicas

Hotfix 2769594 resolves the same issue. However, after you apply hotfix 2769594, the issue may occur again. Therefore, hotfix 2821783 provides the following additional improvements and fixes:

  • Additional diagnostics are added that can help obtain complete details about memory allocation for the MEMORYCLERK_SQLLOGPOOL memory clerk. The diagnostic information is not exposed through dynamic management view (DMV) queries, and can be viewed only through dump information analysis.

  • Some leak-related fixes are added.
