Warning: The retired, out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 desktop application has been permanently disabled through a Microsoft Edge update on certain versions of Windows 10. For more information, see Internet Explorer 11 desktop app retirement FAQ.

Symptoms

A webpage that contains one or more nested IFRAME elements may not display a functional vertical scrollbar correctly in Internet Explorer 10 if the following conditions are true:

  • The top-level document loads in Internet Explorer 10 Compatibility View browser mode and in the IE5 Quirks document mode.

  • The affected top-level IFRAME element has its Frameborder property set to 0.

  • The affected top-level IFRAME document contains a body element that has its Scroll property set to No.

  • The affected top-level IFRAME document contains a body section that contains an empty script block.

  • The affected top-level IFRAME document contains a reference to another IFRAME element whose content extends beyond the vertical viewable region that is provided by the outer IFRAME element.

Cause

This problem occurs because of calculation errors that are encountered during layout and positioning of the document body that is responsible for hosting the affected IFRAME element. For example, this problem occurs when scrolling is set to No for the document body, as in the following examples. Example 1

<body scrolling="no">
<iframe src="/default.asp" width="200" height="200"></iframe>
</body>

Example 2

<body>
<iframe src="/default.asp" width="200" height="200"></iframe>
<script> document.body.scroll=”no”;</script>
</body>
