Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You use Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) to create a Hyper-V failover cluster. The clustered Hyper-V hosts are installed with Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

You assign a third-party storage resource to the Hyper-V cluster.

You create a virtual machine that resides on the third-party storage volume.

SCVMM refreshes the virtual machine.
In this scenario, you receive the following error messages:
Disk path "volume path" is not a path to storage in the cluster or to storage that can be added to the cluster. You must ensure this storage is available to every node in the cluster to make this virtual machine highly available.
An error occurred while adding new required storage to the virtual machine role. The given key was not present in the dictionary. There was an error while updating the storage configuration for virtual machine role "virtual machine name". The given key was not present in the dictionary.Cause
This issue occurs because the third-party storage resource does not have private property that is named "DiskSignature" or "DiskIdGuid." Therefore, it is not added to the virtual machine automatically when you create it.
Resolution
To resolve this issue in Windows Server 2012 R2, install update 2955164.
