Warning: The retired, out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 desktop application has been permanently disabled through a Microsoft Edge update on certain versions of Windows 10. For more information, see Internet Explorer 11 desktop app retirement FAQ.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You configure Internet Explorer 10 not to use a proxy.

  • You connect the computer to a virtual private network (VPN) by using a VPN client that does not support IPv6.

  • You configure a proxy in the VPN connection settings in the Internet options dialog box.

  • You try to use Internet Explorer 10 to open a website.

In this scenario, Internet Explorer 10 does not use the proxy settings in VPN connection to establish the connection.

Cause

This issue occurs because Windows does not use IPv4 proxy settings when an Internet connection is available as IPv6 for VPN connections. Therefore, proxy settings for VPN clients that do not support IPv6 are not used.
