Symptoms
When you try to resize a Microsoft Office Visio 2007 or Microsoft Office Visio 2003 patch panel shape to 1U, you find that you can only resize the shape as small as 2U.
Cause
This behavior occurs because if you resize the patch panel shape to 1U, the geometry (the patch panel drawing detail) extends outside the boundaries of the patch panel shape.
Workaround
To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Use the Shelf Shape (Recommended)
The shelf shape is located in the rack-mounted equipment (US units) pane and in the rack-mounted equipment (metric) pane of the Shapes window.
To locate the shelf shape in a new Visio drawing, follow these steps:

On the File menu, point to New, point to Network, and then click Rack Diagram (US Units) or Rack Diagram (Metric).

In the Shapes window, click the rack-mounted equipment (US units) pane or the rack-mounted equipment (metric) pane.
Method 2: Change the Patch Panel Properties
To change the patch panel properties to allow the resizing of the patch panel to 1U, follow these steps:
Note If you follow these steps, the geometry of the patch panel shape will extend outside the boundaries of the patch panel when you resize the shape to 1U.

In the rack-mounted equipment (US units) pane or in the rack-mounted equipment (metric) pane, drag and draw the patch panel shape on your Visio page.

With the patch panel shape selected, click Show ShapeSheet on the Window menu.

In the Custom Properties section, change the Value box of the Prop.UCount property to the following value, and then press ENTER:
BOUND(2,0,FALSE,1,25)

Close the ShapeSheet window.
You can now resize the patch panel shape to 1U.
