Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. In a Microsoft Office Word 2007 or a Microsoft Office Word 2010 document, you use the Copy command or the Cut command to move a text box to the Clipboard. Then, you click Paste Special in the Paste group on the Home tab. Then, you paste the text box as a GIF picture, as a PNG picture, or as a JPEG picture. However, the picture of the text box does not appear as expected. The text box appears thinner, longer, or smaller than the original text box.

Cause

This issue occurs if you use a relative width or a relative height to format the text box.

Workaround

To work around this issue, you must set the width and the height of the text box to absolute dimensions. To do this, follow these steps:

In Microsoft Word 2007:

1. Right-click the text box, and then click Format Text Box.
2. Click the Size tab.
3. In the Height section, click Absolute.
4. In the Width section, click Absolute.
5. Click OK.

In Microsoft Word 2010:

1. Right-click the text box, and then click More Layout Options.
2. Click the Size tab.
3. In the Height section, click Absolute and set its value to the size you want.
4. In the Width section, click Absolute and set its value to the size you want.
5. Click OK.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
