Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) for the Japanese language on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • You use Imjpuexc.exe to change the default IME dictionary to a custom dictionary.

  • You try to use Imjpuexc.exe to change the custom dictionary back to the default IME dictionary.

In this scenario, you cannot change the custom dictionary back to the default IME dictionary. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Error: SETCUSTOMDICTPATH: Invalid argument(s).

Notes:

  • To locate Imjpuexc.exe, type the following command at the command prompt and then press ENTER:

    %Systemroot%\System32\IME\IMEJP10

  • To obtain the path of the current dictionary, type the following command at the command prompt and then press ENTER:

    IMJPUEXC.EXE GETCUSTOMDICTPATH

  • To change the path of the current dictionary, type the following command at the command prompt and then press ENTER:

IMJPUEXC.EXE SETCUSTOMDICTPATH "<the path of the custom dictionary (*.dic file) >"

Cause

This issue occurs because Imjpuexc.exe uses an incorrect function to check whether the dictionary file exists or not.
