The Explore Tile

 

Get outside and explore. The Explore Tile tracks your heart rate, calorie burn, elevation changes, and more on your hikes, walks, and treks, whether in the forest or your neighborhood.



When you’re doing an activity that covers a distance––like hiking, walking, or going on a cross-country trek––use the Explore Tile on your Microsoft Band to record your route, heart rate, calories burned, elevation changes, and other health stats.


Track a hike or other activity

Step 1: For faster GPS lock, sync your Band with your phone before you set out.
Step 2: On your Band, press the power button.
Step 3: Swipe left, and tap the Explore TileAsset not found.
Step 4: Press the action button to start a new hike or continue with a previous hike.
Step 5: Tap Confirm to begin using GPS. The Explore Tile uses GPS to track your path, mark points of interest, provide notifications, and show where you're heading.
Step 6: Press the action button to begin.

To begin your hike immediately while your Band searches for a GPS signal, press the action button again.

If you wait for GPS to connect, your Band will display GPS locked when it’s connected. Press the action button again to start recording your hike.

Step 7: Your screen will turn off to save battery power.
Step 8:

To add a point of interest, double-press the action button and tap Yes to confirm. You can add up to 24 markers.

Step 9: When you’re done hiking or want to take a break, just press the action button once to enter the pause menu. A timer displays the current duration of your exercise.

While you’re taking a break, you can use the back arrow to check email or use other features on your Band. Tap the Explore Tile Asset not found to continue your workout.

  • Swipe left and tap Resume to continue.
  • Swipe left and tap End Session to stop tracking.
Step 10: When you’re done, swipe left to view your stats.

Name, share, or delete a hike in the Microsoft Band app

You can name, rename, or delete a hike, or share it via social media, messaging, or email. Here's how:

Name or rename a hike

Step 1: To track your improvement, you can name a hike or other exercise you do often. On your phone, tap the Microsoft Band app.
Step 2: On the Home screen, tap your latest hike Asset not found .
Step 3: On the summary screen, choose a hike, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and tap name or rename.
Step 4: In the text box, enter a name for your hike, and tap Accept Asset not found .

Share a hike

Share your favorite hikes with your friends by posting them to social networking sites or via messaging or email. To learn more, see Sharing your activities.

Step 1: On your phone, tap the Microsoft Band app.
Step 2: On the Home screen, tap your latest hike Asset not found .
Step 3: At the bottom of the summary screen for your latest run, select a hike and tap the Share icon.
You can also tap Share at the bottom of the screen.

Delete a hike

If you don’t want to keep a record of a hike, you can delete it:

Step 1: On your phone, tap the Microsoft Band app.
Step 2: On the Home screen, tap your latest hike Asset not found .
Step 3: On the summary screen, choose a hike, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and tap delete > ok.

View your Explore Tile stats

There are three ways to see your Explore Tile stats: on your Band, in the Microsoft Band app on your phone, and online in your Microsoft Health web dashboard.

Your Band shows you key stats from your last hike. Tap the Explore Tile Asset not found to see:

Average climb rate icon
Average climb rate
Calories burned icon
Calories burned

Asset not found Peak and average heart rate (BPM)

On your phone

The Microsoft Band app shows you all the info you can see on your Band, plus:

Calories burned icon
Calories burned, with details on fats and carbs burned
Asset not found Heart rate (average and ending)
Asset not found Recovery time
Asset not found Cardio benefit
Asset not found Cardio minutes
Asset not found UV Exposure

The app also will show you:

  • A map of your route
  • Your recorded points of interest
  • Elevation chart

To see detailed stats on your phone:

Step 1: On your phone, tap the Microsoft Band app.
Step 2: On the Home screen, tap Menu > History.
Step 3: Tap any recorded hike.
Step 4: If GPS was on, tap on the route map to display it on a local map. Tap Close Asset not found to return to the app.
Step 5: Scroll up to see all of your stats or swipe to switch between the summary tab and the points of interest tab.
Step 6: On the points of interest tab, tap the chart to cycle through stats for heart rate, elevation, and route length.

Online in your Microsoft Health web dashboard

In addition to showing you the Explore Tile stats that you can see in the Microsoft Band app, your Microsoft Health web dashboard provides advanced fitness tracking and information you can use to achieve your wellness goals.


Turn the Explore Tile on or off

You can use the Microsoft Band app to turn the Explore Tile on or off. Turning off the tile removes it from your Band. For more info, see Manage tiles and notifications.
