All about device screens and displays

There are a few things to consider when selecting a device display, from its size and resolution to whether it's a touchscreen. Your device's form, like a laptop or a tablet, can also affect your experience. Learn how these factors affect the look and function of your screen.

  • Screen size measures how large the display is. It's measured diagonally, with commons sizes of 12inches to 15 inches.
  • A bigger screen allows you to see more windows and apps at once, though the screen weighs more than a smaller screen.
  • Resolution measures how many pixels are on your screen. The more pixels, the sharper your display is.
  • Full high-definition, or HD, measures 1920 x 1080 pixels. 4K, sometimes called Ultra HD, measures 3840 x 2160 pixels.
  • You can interact with touchscreen devices using your fingertips or sometimes a digital pen, which lets you write on your PC like it's a piece of paper.
  • Besides a standard laptop, consider a tablet for portability or a 2-in-1, which looks like a laptop but can fold into a tablet or spin around its screen.
