Reset Microsoft Band

If you’re switching phones or trying to solve a problem, or if you need to restart the setup process, follow these steps to get your Microsoft Band back to its factory settings and set it up again.

When you reset your Microsoft Band, you won’t lose the data you’ve already synced to the cloud.

Solution 1: Restart your Band (two-button method)

First, try restarting your Band using the two-button method. Here’s how:

Step 1: Press and hold the power button and the action button on your Band at the same time.
Step 2: After three seconds, your Band will show Turn Power off?
You can power down your Band and restart it by swiping left and tapping Yes, or you can continue to hold down both buttons for an additional seven to eight seconds.
Step 3: After an additional seven to eight seconds, your Band’s screen will flash red. You can release both buttons and your Band will perform a quick restart, or you can continue to hold down both buttons for a few more seconds.
Step 4: Release both buttons.
You Band will now be turned off.
Step 5: Press the power button to restart your Band.

If your Band still isn’t working properly, try Solution 2.

Solution 2: Use “Replace my Band” in the Band app

If restarting your Band using the two-button method doesn’t work, try repairing your Band using “Replace my Band” in the Microsoft Band app.

Step 1: Open the Microsoft Band app

Step 1: On your phone, tap the Microsoft Band app.
Step 2: Tap Menu   > Sync Sync icon.
Step 3: Tap Replace my Band and in the pop-up dialog box to unregister your Band, tap OK.
Step 4: Choose which type of Band you own (Microsoft Band or Microsoft Band 2).

Step 2: Reset your Band

Step 1: On your Band, tap the Settings Tile
The Settings Tile
 > Power
Power icon.
Step 2: Swipe left and under Factory Reset, tap Reset Device.
Step 3: Under Erase All Data, tap Yes.

Step 3: Set up your Band again

As soon as you complete the steps above, the setup sequence begins. You can pair your Band with the Band app on your phone again immediately or you can turn off your Band and pair it later.

Important

Always use this setup process to pair your Band with your phone, rather than only using your phone’s Bluetooth settings to pair them.

Why? Bluetooth pairs your Band and phone but doesn’t register your Band in the Band app on your phone or associate it with your Microsoft account in the cloud. You’ll need to do both for your Band to work correctly.

To set up your Band:

Step 1: On your phone, tap the Microsoft Band app.
Step 2: Tap Menu   > Add a Band > pair now, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Tap “Add a Band” in the Microsoft Health app

If using “Replace my Band” doesn’t fix your problem, try Solution 3.

Solution 3: Manually reset your Band

If you can’t use “Replace my Band” in the Band app to resolve your issue, try manually resetting your Band. Here’s how:

Step 1: Unregister your Band

Step 1: On your phone, tap the Microsoft Band app.
Step 2: Tap Menu   > Sync Sync icon.
Step 3:

Tap My Microsoft Band > Unregister your Band > Continue.

Tap unregister your band

Step 2: Remove your Band from your phone’s list of paired Bluetooth devices

On your phone, remove your Band from the list of paired Bluetooth® devices. If you aren’t sure where to find this, check the info that came with your phone or go to the manufacturer’s website.

Step 3: Reset your Band

Step 1: On your phone, tap the Microsoft Band app.
Step 2: Tap Menu   > Sync Sync icon.
Step 3: On your Band, tap the Settings Tile
The Settings Tile
 > Power
Power icon.
Step 4: Swipe left and under Factory Reset, tap Reset Device.
Step 4: Under Erase All Data, tap Yes.

Step 4: Set up your Band again

As soon as you complete the steps above, the setup sequence begins. You can pair your Band with the Band app on your phone again immediately, or you can turn off your Band and pair it later.
