A digital signature is an electronic, encrypted, stamp of authentication on digital information such as email messages, macros, or electronic documents. A signature confirms that the information originated from the signer and has not been altered.

You can add signatures manually to individual email messages, or you can have a signature automatically added to every message that you send. In Outlook, multiple objects must be anchored before you can drag them all at once.

For information about how to request a digital certificate from a certification authority, see Find digital ID or digital signature services and Mac Help. You must also have a copy of each recipient's certificate saved with the contacts' entries in Outlook.

A signature block in Outlook can be as simple as your name and a telephone number. Or you can bump up its presentation with a photo or a logo and even add some social networking service icons like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and YouTube. We'll show you how.

Open the digitally signed message. Look at the Signed By status line to check the email address of the person who signed the message. It isn't enough to check the email address in the From line—you want to verify who actually signed the message, not only who sent the message.

Your handwritten signature gives your document a personal touch. You can scan your signature, store it as a picture, and then insert your signature in Word documents.

An invisible digital signature, like a visible digital signature line, assures the authenticity, integrity, and origin of a document. You can add invisible digital signatures to Word documents, Excel workbooks, and PowerPoint presentations.

The Signature Details dialog box displays certificate information such as the signer’s name in the Signing as box, and who issued the certificate. Open the file that contains the certificate you want to view.
