Applies ToSharePoint Server 2016

Summary

This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Office file. To learn more about these vulnerabilities, see the following:

Note To apply this security update, you must have the release version of Microsoft SharePoint Enterprise Server 2016 installed on the computer.

This public update delivers Feature Pack 2 for SharePoint Server 2016. Feature Pack 2 contains the following feature:

  • SharePoint Framework (SPFx)

This public update also delivers all the features that were included in Feature Pack 1 for SharePoint Server 2016, including:

  • Administrative Actions Logging

  • MinRole enhancements

  • SharePoint Custom Tiles

  • Hybrid Auditing (preview)

  • Hybrid Taxonomy

  • OneDrive API for SharePoint on-premises

  • OneDrive for Business modern user experience (available to Software Assurance customers)

The OneDrive for Business modern user experience requires an active Software Assurance contract at the time that the experience is enabled, either by installation of the public update or by manual enablement. If you don't have an active Software Assurance contract at the time of enablement, you must turn off the OneDrive for Business modern user experience.

Improvements and fixes

This update contains the following improvements:

  • Improves text extraction from PDF files that use certain fonts. This improves search accuracy.

  • Adds support for the new Japanese era in the timeline portion of the Project Summary web part in Project 2016.

This update contains fixes for the following nonsecurity issues in SharePoint Server 2016:

  • When you copy a web app content that references a web part from a list, a duplicated web part is displayed unexpectedly.

  • When multiple SharePoint farms use the same extended zone and consume a published search service application, search queries from this extended zone don't return results.

  • When you publish an InfoPath form, you experience long delays.

  • The "ConfigSSC.aspx" page can't be opened if there's no User Profile Application (UPA) in the SharePoint farm. This issue occurs after you install Description of the security update for SharePoint Server 2016: November 14, 2017.

  • Synchronizing a notebook from OneNote 2016 to SharePoint Server 2016 fails, and you receive the following error message:

We're sorry, something went wrong during sync. We'll try again later. (Error code: 0x803D0000)

  • Certain calendar picker options for setting CalendarWeekRule update the value incorrectly.

  • When you browse to a view in a list that contains more than 1,000 uniquely secured items, you receive an error message. This issue occurs if a combination of the required content approval, minor versions, and nondefault draft visibility settings is applied to the list.

  • Share Point Server 2016 temporarily stops working during Zero downtime patching.

  • Users who are subsite members but not the root site members can't run a search in subsites. After they trigger the search query, they are denied access. This issue occurs after they install Description of the security update for SharePoint Enterprise Server 2016: December 11, 2018.

  • In a list that contains more than 5,000 items, when you apply a filter to two indexed columns, the view displays an error message.

  • When you try to open an Office file in a search result by using the Edge browser, the file doesn't open, and you are prompted to select or find a program from the app store on your computer.

  • When the locale of a page is set to English(Canada), the page can't be published on a schedule.

This update contains a fix for the following nonsecurity issue in Project Server 2016:

  • Updating a local custom field lookup table values through the client-side object model (CSOM) may cause Project to crash.
