How do I know that an email is really from Skype?

If you receive an email claiming to be from Skype and you suspect it may be fraudulent, do not reply to the email, click any links in the email, or open any attachments to the email.

Genuine emails from Skype are usually sent from email addresses ending with:

@emails.skype.com
@email.skype.com
@skype.delivery.net
@notifications.skype.com
@alerts.skype.com
@skype.net
@css.one.microsoft.com

If you receive an email that's not from an address like that, it's likely to be fraudulent. Even if it is from one of those addresses, you should be cautious.

Fraudulent emails may ask you to provide your Skype password, payment details, or other sensitive personal information. They may tell you that you need to upgrade or reinstall Skype, or that your order is being delivered or has been refused. Previous fraudulent emails have used the following subject lines:

  • New Skype Has Been Released

  • Download New Version Of Skype ! More Free Talks

  • New Version Of Skype Has Been Released ! Upgrade Available Now

  • Your Skype Account Has been Limited!

  • New Releases : Download New Skype 2011 For Your Windows And Mac

Such emails are known as "spoof" or "phishing" emails. The people who send them hope that you will give them sensitive personal information, or click a link in the email to go to a fraudulent web site, or open an attachment that could install potentially malicious software on your computer. If you receive an email like this, please contact Skype support .

If you contact Skype Customer Service , our reply may ask you to provide further account or billing information. This is normal. However, we will never request that you send us your password .

We will also never contact you through instant messaging to persuade you to download anything or ask you for your personal details, unless you have already contacted us. If someone contacts you pretending to be from Skype, block them and report them for abuse .

Please be extremely cautious when responding to any email request for sensitive personal information.
