How does Skype charge Value Added Tax (VAT) or Goods and Services Tax (GST)?

Skype is required to charge Value Added Tax (VAT) or Goods and Services Tax (GST) for products purchased by Skype customers in certain countries.

To make sure you’re paying the correct VAT or GST, sign in to your account and check that your billing information is up to date.

To find out what the current VAT or GST rate is in your country, check with your local tax authority.

This depends on the Skype products you use.

Pay As You Go rates

Our Pay As You Go rates are inclusive of VAT or GST , where applicable.

Note: VAT or GST in India, Switzerland, and Lichtenstein for Skype Credit and Auto-recharge is charged at the time of purchase or renewal.

Subscriptions and Skype Numbers

VAT or GST on subscriptions and Skype Numbers is charged at the time of purchase or renewal.

Skype Credit and Auto-recharge

VAT or GST is not charged when you buy (or allocate) Skype Credit or when your Skype Credit is automatically topped up. However, the applicable VAT or GST -inclusive rates are applied when you use your Skype Credit to make calls, send SMS, or use any other paid Skype products.

Note: Excludes India, Switzerland, and Lichtenstein, where our rates are not inclusive of VAT or GST.

VAT or GST invoices are available to download only in certain countries .

Skype Manager customers can download VAT invoices in certain countries via the Skype Manager Admin dashboard.

Monthly VAT or GST invoices only contain those transactions which have an effect for VAT or GST purposes, i.e. subscriptions and Skype Numbers. As VAT or GST is not charged when you buy (or allocate) Skype Credit, these transactions are not reflected on VAT invoices.

All Skype customers have access to itemized monthly statements of their Skype activity.

No. The use of Skype is for your personal and non-commercial use. You are permitted to use your personal Skype account for your own business communications.

We do not accept or process VAT or GST registration numbers. Skype Manager customers who previously provided us with a valid VAT or GST registration number now pay the applicable VAT or GST rate in their country.
