Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment, user A has the Full Access permission and the Send As permission to a mailbox of user B .

  • The storage quota for the mailbox of user B is larger than the default storage quota.

  • User A logs on to user B’s mailbox.

  • After user A lets the mailbox sit idle for some time, user A then tries to send or forward an email message.

Note The time is longer than the Reread Logon Quotas Interval value.

In this scenario, user A may receive the following error message unexpectedly:

You've exceeded the storage limit for your mailbox. Delete some items from your mailbox.

Additionally, the following event is logged in the Application log on the Mailbox server:
Note When this issue occurs, the mailbox size of user B is nowhere near its storage quota limit.

Cause

This issue occurs because when user A is automatically re-logged back on to user B's mailbox, the Exchange server incorrectly obtains quota information of user A's mailbox instead of the quota of user B's mailbox.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

2803727 Description of Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3

Workaround

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
