The NFS share cannot be brought online in Windows Server 2008 R2 when you try to create the NFS share as a cluster resource on a third-party storage disk
You install the Failover Cluster feature and the Network File System (NFS) service on a server that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.
You try to create an NFS share as a cluster resource on a third-party storage disk. The disk is not the "Physical Disk" resource type.
In this scenario, the NFS share cannot be brought online. Additionally, you receive an error message in the System Event log that resembles following message when you try to access the NFS share:
Cluster NFS Share <sharename> : Unable to bring the resource online as a required Storage dependency is missing.
Add a Storage dependency for the storage resource with the directory being shared and then retry the online operation.
Cluster resource 'sharename' in clustered service or application 'fsname' failed.
This issue occurs because the NFS server uses the "Physical Disk" resource name to identify whether the storage class cluster resource is online. However, this feature does not support the third-party storage class cluster resource. Therefore, you cannot create an NFS share on the third-party storage class cluster resource because the NFS server assumes that the storage is not online.
To resolve this issue, install the hotfix. This hotfix enables the NFS share on a third-party storage class cluster resource. Example of the third-party storage class cluster resources are Symantec Storage Foundations for Windows, Doubletake, and Steeleye.
