When you try to install the Microsoft Windows Automatic Update Client, the installation does not succeed, and you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Windows Update Auto Update requires Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows XP.

CAUSE
The behavior occurs because the Automatic Update Client is already installed on the operating systems that are listed in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
The Automatic Update Client can only be installed on the following operating systems:
