When you type or edit a phone number on the Contacts page in Microsoft Outlook 2002, Outlook does not respond. Additionally, when you start the Telephony tool or the Phone and Modem Options tool in Control Panel, Outlook does not respond.
This issue occurs if the Telephony service is turned off, is missing, or is malfunctioning. Outlook parses the value that is in the telephone number
box to determine the area code. Outlook compares this value to the value in the Telephony service. Therefore, Outlook does not respond if the Telephony service is turned off, is missing, or is malfunctioning.
Follow the steps that apply to your operating system.
