Article ID: 907733 - Last Review: December 3, 2007 - Revision: 1.5 Microsoft does not support the use of FAT file systems or FAT32 file systems with Internet Information ServicesINTRODUCTIONWe do not support the use of FAT file systems or of FAT32 file systems with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). MORE INFORMATIONWeb Server administrators who use Internet Information Services and FAT file systems or FAT32 file systems should convert the file systems to NTFS file systems. FAT file systems and FAT32 file systems are available on Microsoft Windows operating systems for legacy and compatibility reasons for some types of applications. However, FAT file systems and FAT32 file systems do not have the modern security features that we require to help make the Web server secure. NTFS file systems provide several security features that we require for the Web server and that FAT file systems and FAT32 file systems do not provide. Therefore, we recommend that all Web server administrators convert all FAT file systems or FAT32 file systems to NTFS file systems.
