Windows 98 and Windows Me Error Message Resource Center
SYMPTOMS
When you start Windows, you may receive the following error message:
Error Loading Kernel. You must reinstall Windows.
CAUSE
This error can occur if the Kernel32.dll file is missing or damaged.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this situation, extract a new copy of the Kernel32.dll file
from your original Windows disks or CD-ROM. To do so, follow these
steps:
MORE INFORMATIONNOTE: This article was cited in a hoax regarding a problem with Windows 95/Windows 98 functioning properly on and after December 31, 1999. The problem discussed in this article is not year 2000 (Y2K) related, and Microsoft is unaware of any date-related problems in Kernel32.dll.
