FAT32 Using Compatibility Mode with OnTrack Disk ManagerArticle ID: 152701 - View products that this article applies to. This article was previously published under Q152701 SYMPTOMS
After you install the FAT32 file system on a drive that uses OnTrack Disk
Manager version 6.03 or 7.04, one or both of the following symptoms may
occur:
CAUSE
Dynamic Drive Overlay is unable to find files in the root folder that
it needs to start correctly.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods:
MORE INFORMATION
Dynamic Drive Overlay makes calculations for the starting root folder
cluster based on FAT12 and FAT16 volumes and returns a value of zero for
FAT32 volumes. This occurs because of changes made in the root folder
structure. The overlay software searches all possible clusters in the root
folder for its overlay files.
Configuring the Disk Manager Dynamic Drive Overlay software to avoid searching the root folder causes Disk Manager to not hook the DOS Arena Chain, forcing Disk Manager to load low in conventional memory. Disk Manager is manufactured by OnTrack Computer Systems, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
