SUMMARY

By default, when you select a news message in Microsoft Internet News, it becomes marked as read after five seconds have elapsed. This article describes how to change the amount of time before a selected message becomes marked as read.

To change the amount of time before a selected message becomes marked as read, use the following steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Internet News.
  2. On the News menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Read tab.
  4. Change the value in the "Message is read after being previewed for <n> second(s)" box to any value from 0 to 60.
  5. Click Apply, and then click OK.
NOTE: You can also prevent selected messages from becoming marked as read by clicking the "Message is read after being previewed for <n> second(s)" check box to clear it.
