Emergency Repair Disk Information Requires 1.44-MB Floppy Disk

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to create an Emergency Repair Disk using a 720 floppy disk, you receive either of the following messages:
Setup
Setup was unable to format the disk
-or-
Repair Disk Utility
Repair Disk Utility was unable to format the disk
Then you receive either of the following error messages:
Setup
Setup was unable to create the Emergency Repair Disk from the disk you provided because the disk could not be formatted. Insert a new disk into drive A: and select Retry.
-or-
Repair Disk Utility
Repair Disk Utility was unable to create the Emergency Repair Disk from the disk you provided because the disk could not be formatted. Insert a new disk into drive A: and select Retry.

CAUSE

The Emergency Repair Disk information requires more than 720K of floppy disk space. Windows NT always attempts to format the floppy disk for the Emergency Repair Disk to 1.44 MB.

RESOLUTION

You must use a 1.44-MB floppy disk to create an Emergency Repair Disk.
