This article describes how to export an Internet Mail version 3.x for
Macintosh address book, and then import it into Outlook Express.
To export an address book from Internet Mail versions 3.x for Macintosh,
follow these steps:
- Start Internet Mail, and then click Export Address Book on the File
menu.
- Insert an MS-DOS-formatted floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.
- In the Save Exported Address List As box, type Address.txt.
- Click Save, and then quit Internet Mail.
NOTE: Back up your existing Outlook Express address book before you follow
the steps below. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
- In the Named box, type "*.wab" (without quotation marks), and then
click Find Now.
- Copy the <username>.wab file to another location, where <username> is
your e-mail account name.
NOTE: For information about copying a file, click Start, click Help, click
the Index tab, type "copying" (without quotation marks), and then double-
click the "files or folders" topic.
To import the Internet Mail for Macintosh address book into the Outlook
Express address book, follow these steps:
- Insert the floppy disk with the Address.txt file into the floppy disk
drive.
- Using a text editor, open the Address.txt file, and then replace all
tab characters with commas (,).
- Save the Address.txt file, and then rename the Address.txt file to
Address.csv.
For information about how to rename a file, click Start, click Help,
click the Index tab, type "renaming" (without quotation marks), and
then double-click the "Renaming files" topic.
- In Outlook Express, click the File menu, point to Import, and then
click Address Book.
- Click Text File (Comma Separated Values), and then click Import.
- In the Choose A File To Import box, type the path to the Address.csv
file that you created in step 4, or click Browse to locate the file,
and then click Next.
- Click an appropriate check box in the Text Field column to select it,
click the appropriate field in the Change Mapping dialog box, and then
click OK.
- Repeat step 7 for each field you want to import.
- Click Finish.
- Click OK, and then click Close.
NOTE: You cannot export Groups, you must recreate the groups after you
have imported the e-mail addresses into Outlook Express.
