Setup Does Not Detect Some HP Printers Properly

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install any of the following Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet printers, Setup detects a "HEWLETT PACKARD DESKJET" printer instead of the specific printer, and does not list any drivers for the printer.

  • 690
  • 690C
  • 692C
  • 693C
  • 694C
When this occurs, the Pick a Driver box does not display any printers.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because these printer models all use the same Plug and Play ID, and cannot be differentiated.
