Problems Backing Up to HP C1533 DAT Tape Drive

SYMPTOMS

When you back up files to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) C1533 DAT drive connected to an Adaptec 2940UW controller, the backup process may not finish. The following event may appear in Event Viewer repeatedly:

The device, \Device\Scsi\aic78xx1, did not respond within the timeout period.
Event #9 Source is "Error"

CAUSE

The HP C1533 DAT drive requires 5-MHz throughput. The Adaptec 2940UW controller provides 10-MHz or 20-MHz through put.

Note that improper SCSI termination may also cause this behavior
