SUMMARY

This article describes how to upgrade a DHCP or WINS database from a Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 server to a Windows 2000 server.

Upgrading a DHCP or WINS Database

  1. Run the NET STOP DHCP or NET STOP WINS command on both the Windows NT 3.51 and Windows 2000 servers.
  2. Copy the contents of the Windows NT 3.51 %SystemRoot%\System32\WINS or %SystemRoot%\System32\DHCP folder to the Windows 2000 %SystemRoot%\System32\WINS or %SystemRoot%\System32\DHCP folder.
  3. Run the Upg351db.exe upgrade tool on the Windows 2000 server.

    NOTES:

    • You need the Jet.dll file from the Windows NT 3.51 server.
    • The /e command-line switch specifies the type: 1 is DHCP, 2 is WINS. For example, the command line might be: upg351db wins.mdb /e2 /djet.dll
